Sean joined Mathys and Squire in 2007. He qualified as a Chartered UK Patent Attorney in 2010 and a European Patent Attorney in 2011. He has experience of drafting and prosecuting European and British patent applications in a broad range of technical fields, these include computer implemented inventions, electronics, network communications and medical devices.
Sean holds a Masters Degree in Physics and a PhD, both from the University of Nottingham and a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the Queen Mary University of London.
Sean's doctoral research was carried out in a multi-disciplinary research group working with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at the interface between physics, engineering, neurology and medicine. In particular his thesis included work relating to RF and gradient pulse sequences, passive and dynamic shimming, and signal sampling schemes for MRI of the human brain. Analysis of this work involved quantitative statistics of medical image analysis, cross modal MRI-EEG (Electroencephalography) and physiological measurement schemes, multivariate statistics, recursive time series analysis, wavelet methods, independent component analysis and other advanced digital image and signal processing techniques. In addition Sean is an accomplished programmer with experience of working with procedural and object oriented programming methods for a range of analytical applications and for data acquisition and control.
